THE RULES OF THE PERFECT HOME-GYM
Creating a great workout space is not an impossible science for fitness enthusiasts, but that doesn’t stop you from often getting disappointing results.
For this reason, based on our experience, we have created this guide that includes some important tips, our "must-avoids" and what we have decided are the golden rules for designing a home gym.
-
1. PLAN YOUR HOME GYM DESIGN
-
2. WHO WILL USE YOUR HOME GYM
-
3. CHOOSE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
● The first step in our list of rules is simply planning. This step is often skipped, but it’s worth spending a little extra time researching, creating a photo board or even a scrapbook with some sketches to get you started so you don’t end up having to destroy what you’ve accomplished.
Furthermore, it is important to ask yourself:
- Is it a space dedicated to intensity or tranquility?
- How does the gym design fit in with the rest of the house?
- What design features would you like to incorporate?
- Are windows, lighting, mirrors and technology planned?
● Will your gym be your sanctuary or a space for the whole family to enjoy? The approach in each case must be different. From the look to the equipment choices and space planning.
● One of the biggest mistakes is too much equipment. Nothing ruins the tranquility of a space more than the claustrophobic clutter caused by mountains of machines, often used for the same exercises.
Especially if the space is not excessively large, choose your tools wisely; opting for multifunctional equipment that is compact and versatile means using your space better.
For example, think of wall mounting as a storage option, because it takes up less space in smaller gyms than traditional floor racks. Also, where storage can be integrated into other equipment, or multiple types of equipment can be stored on the same rack, consider this as a space-saving option.
Ironside Armour offers an innovative line that can be customized with hundreds of accessories, all adaptable to the same basic machine, the Pro Power Rack.

4. RIGHT BALANCE BETWEEN FORM AND FUNCTION
-
5. STYLE YOUR GYM
-
6. DON'T MAKE THESE MISTAKES
● Are you at the point where, yes, your home gym looks good, but are you actually going to use it? The home gym is a space where we believe form and function should live in harmony; a gym that looks good but doesn't help you reach your workout goals is pretty much useless.
Don't just focus on aesthetics, but also on functionality; be prepared to compromise, if a wall mounted TV will increase the number of hours you spend working out by 20%, but will cost you a pull up bar, is it worth it? Only you can know the answer for yourself.
● If you have decided on a simple, relaxing and minimalist design, it is right that you get it this way. Don't be afraid to ask and wait for the equipment of your dreams.
At Ironside Armour we understand how important your investment, both financial and emotional, is in the creation of your gym, and that is why we are happy to always do everything we can to provide the best solution for our customers, both in terms of quality and price. If you need a custom color, logo, or certain dimensions to meet your space requirements, just ask us!
● Protect your floor . Even if you don’t plan on dropping 100kg barbells, accidents happen; you’d be surprised at the damage even medium-sized dumbbells can do to unprotected residential floors. That’s why we always recommend extra protection; we’ve got a few tiles in our dedicated section that can do the trick.
Check the ceiling height . There is nothing more disappointing than receiving your equipment and finding that the room does not have the height necessary to accommodate your new toy.
Be careful when mounting equipment to the wall . We always recommend that you seek advice from a builder or carpenter before drilling any holes. Using the right tools and installing them in the right place is essential to avoid unpleasant workout accidents and potential property damage.
